About the Keating PAC

The Keating PAC is the parents' advisory council for Keating Elementary School located in Central Saanich, British Columbia, Canada.
What are PACs?
Under the BC School Act, every public school in the province is entitled to establish a parents' advisory council whose role is to advise school administration on any matters relating to the school. PACs advocate for students and parents, promote parent involvement, and provide a forum for parent discussion of educational issues. In other countries or provinces, similar organizations are called parent-teacher associations (PTAs) or school councils.
What is the Keating PAC?
Every parent or guardian of a Keating Elementary student is automatically a member of our PAC. The members then elect a volunteer Executive Board to lead the PAC and represent our Keating parent community. The PAC Exec facilitates communication between parents and school administration and helps advocate for enhancements to our children's education and wellbeing. We organize school events, present parent education evenings, plan fundraisers, and strive to make Keating Elementary a better place for our children to learn and grow.
When does the Keating PAC meet?
The Keating PAC holds its meetings once a month. Every monthly meeting is facilitated and led by the PAC Exec and are open to all Keating parents/guardians to attend, as well as school staff and administration. At every meeting the PAC Exec will discuss its upcoming events, fundraisers, and initiatives and take feedback and suggestions from the parent community. Any important decisions facing the PAC, including new advocacy initiatives or unbudgeted-for expenditures, are put to a vote of the members in attendance at the meeting. A representative of the school administration is also generally present at every meeting to provide an update on the goings-on at Keating and to hear from parents. If you are interested in staying up to date on what is happening at our children's school and having a say on matters that affect our school community, please come out and join us at our monthly meetings!
